with the eye equipment on our recent trip to Haiti.  We saw over 700 people go through our clinic and what a blessing they received through your ministry.  God has blessed you with a passion for your optometry ministry and this blessing multiplies to people all around the world.  It was amazing seeing the reaction on the faces of the people that we saw in our clinic.  For some, it was the first time they could see clearly for years and for some the first time they could see clearly in their entire life.  It was a blessing to our team to see how God blessed our patients with the gift of to extend my sincere thanks on behalf of Dean Oachs, our mission team, and the people of Haiti for your contributions and prayers concerning the WorldWide Village Haiti Mission Trip 2008.  As you may know, our team of 15 people spent last week, Jan 12-19th in Haiti conducting several service projects.  </div> <bR> <div> On Sunday, we were able to visit an orphanage where we spent some time playing soccer and basketball with the residents who were boys between the ages of 9-16.  We brought with us many toys and soccer balls, toothbrushes and toothpaste.  We were told by the director that this is the first time that anyone (missionaries or otherwise) had every visited these boys, and you could tell how grateful they were when we were with them.  This experience may not mean much to people like us, but for these boys, they will never forget the time we were able to give to them as long as they live.</div> <bR> <div> During the week, the entire group traveled to a town called Archaie, located an hour north of Port Au Prince.  Half of the group worked tirelessly in the blazing Haiti heat, building walls that were six rows high of cinder block around the 125' x 75' structure that will soon be a warehouse to store medical supplies and food for the people there.  By the way, the people of Archaie have absolutely nothing by our standards.  There are many who only eat 6 meals a week!  They previously had no access to medicine, education or clean water.  However, because of contributions like yours, now a well is being dug and clean water has been found!  Also, a church has been built on site that doubles as a school house for the many children of the area.  Once the warehouse is completed, our hope is to provide a consistent amount of meals for the people.  </div> <bR> <div> The other half of the team conducted a medical and optical clinic.  People of the area came from all around to be seen by a physician and given important medicine such as vitamins, worm medication and antibiotics/antimalarial drugs.  Thanks to your donations, we were able to purchase about $1500 of prescription medication and vitamins for the people.  With your donations, we also rented <I><U>(KOM: </U></I><I><U>Actually was loaned at no cost</U></I><I><U>)</U></I> an autorefractor device that allowed us to quickly obtain patients' glasses prescriptions.  The device allowed for a quick measurement and then cross referenced a patient's prescription against the 2400 used glasses and 600 readers that we had on hand.  The result was that we were able to give out hundreds of glasses in a short amount of time to many people who have not been able to see most of their lives.  What I realized is that many people who were employed at a T-shirt making shop in Port Au Prince could not see to thread their needles.  Something as simple as reading glasses provided job security to people fighting to keep a job in a country where jobs are very difficult to find.  As part of the optical clinic, we were able to travel not only to Archaie, but also in the heart of Port Au Prince and Carrefour.  My goal for this next year is to come up with enough money to buy an autorefractor device and kit for $11,000.  It will be a gift that keeps on giving.  Over the course of the week, the medical and optical teams saw over 900 patients!  It is unbelievable what can be done in a week!</div> <bR> <div> On our last day of service, the members of the medical clinic and optical team met up at a boys school in Carrefour.  It just so happened that some board members of an organization in the Twin Cities called Teen Challenge came to meet with the administrators of this school where 150 boys are taken right off the street from gangs.  During our time there, we were able to meet with the Minister of Social Affairs for Haiti, and our group was featured on the National Haiti News that evening.  </div> <bR> <div> Most importantly, through our brief time in Haiti, we were able to minister to the people and to each other.  Daily devotionals and prayer allowed for each of us to strengthen or renew our relationship with Christ Jesus.  Two of our members decided to rededicate their lives to serve Christ and were baptized in the ocean.  Through the ministry of our clinics, 15 Haitians gave their hearts to Christ.  God has blessed our time in Haiti, and we are extremely humbled to see
