Subject: Use of Autorefractor on Uganda Mission Trip
Dear Holland,
Thank you so much for the use of your autorefractor last month! As you know, our team from Stony Point Reformed Presbyterian Church went on its 7th mission trip to Buzika, Uganda. Dr. Edward Leaton had brought donated prescription glasses the year before, and found that people really needed them. However, with no way to test vision, he and his helpers had to let people randomly try glasses on to try to find a pair that improved their vision. That frustrating experience led him to research your autorefractor and to take the class to learn how to operate it.
We took the autorefractor, which you so graciously lent to us, this year. Dr. Leaton measured a person's eyes with the autorefractor in a matter of minutes, and we were able to find prescription glasses with a high degree of accuracy. We were amazed at how much people's vision was improved with the prescription generated by the computer program! Seeing the smiles on the people's faces when they looked at the world with corrected vision for the first time was an incredible experience. We were able to fit a large group of people with glasses in a systematic manner.
We found that transporting the equipment as carry on luggage (three pieces in all) was not at all difficult, since you packaged it so efficiently.
Thank you also for your e-mails and advice prior to the trip. We definitely felt like our vision clinic was a resounding success and would like repeat it in the future!
God bless you in your work. Thank you for using your gifts and talents to bring such a needed service to others.
In His Love,
Gayle Park
