Subject: 2019 Liberia Mission Report
Hi Holland,
I have forgotten to send you a report of the 2019 Liberia mission. So here it is.
January of 2019 our team served in Liberia Africa, in the remote southern region of Sinoe County, in the small town of Greenville.
We bring our team every 2 years to Liberia, and had not yet been to this area because of the great difficulty of getting to this place. 8-11 hour (or more) of extremely bumpy roads. There is a great need in this area because of being so remote, there is no dentist or eye doctors. Thankfully there is now a new small airplane service for missionaries, pastors etc. We would have never gotten to this place except for this wonderful, much needed ministry.
The shipment we had sent well ahead did not arrive in time for the mission. Being in contact with pastors in Liberia, we knew this was the case, so we loaded our luggage as much as we could with readers. We had no room to bring sunglasses this time. Thankfully we had left our leftover readers from the 2017 mission, underground, under the steps of a church, so that helped some.
In the 2 weeks in Greenville we saw 1200 optical patients. 672 went thru to the autorefractor, 485 received prescription glasses. 611 received reading glasses, and important eye care instructions were given to each patient. The local radio station also interviewed us. We invited the community to the clinic, plus gave eye care instructions. All our left overs were loaded in our partner's truck, to take to his mission in Guinea, where we are planning to hold our next mission in 2021, God willing.
The Dental clinic was also wonderful seeing 292 patients, giving 285 extractions, 50 sealant, 53 silver diamine treatments for decay , 6 fillings , 30 cleanings, 450+ fluoride treatments and important dental instructions.
Our team consists of about 1/2 it's members who go each time, and 1/2 of new members who go just that 1 time. It is always a life changing occurrence, especially for those who go on the mission for the first time. To see how people live in a 3rd world country, to see how happy they are with so little, and to be able to help them to see, and to relieve of terrible pain in the mouth. We do this in the name of Jesus, and try to be sure to pray with each patient. We are blessed to bless our patients on these missions.
Thank you Holland Kendall and KOM for all you do to make it possible for so many teams to go all over the world to bring sight to those in need, and for your emphasis on Jesus Christ, our complete healer.
