Attached is a photo of a very excited and thankful patient who came up to us after mass the following day to thank us again for his new glasses.
We had seen this man in clinic the day before. In addition to having poor eyesight, he also suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and had moderately severe cataracts. This made it impossible to get an accurate reading. So we used the lens rack to approximate his prescription. We ran a list of 10 glasses to be sure we could find some glasses that would help him. After several failed attempts he tried on these obviously women’s glasses. His face just lit up and he kept on saying, “Gracias! Gracias! Puedo ver!” (Thank you. I can see!). He didn’t care that they were feminine glasses. He could see. We just told him, “Que guapo!” (How handsome!).
In 4 days of clinic in small villages, we saw over 500 patients and dispensed over 500 prescription and reading glasses, in addition to many sunglasses and eye drops.
