Jamaica, 2016
Here is a testimonial from Dr Clifford Phillips an optometrist from Virginia.
=============================================================
I got home from the CVMMT trip to Jamaica on the evening of April 8, 2016. The Eye Team had a great week, and we were able to help many patients. We examined approximately 300 patients with the equipment from Kendall Optometry Ministry, and once again the equipment was invaluable to me as I tried to help as many people as I could. One of the patients we saw on Wednesday in Bath was Mickayla, who is 8 years old, and came in because she could not see very well in the distance. It turns out that she had and Rx of over -15.00D with astigmatism in both eyes. That amount of nearsightedness put her in the top 10 worst eyeglass prescriptions I have ever seen, and that is in 38 years of practicing optometry. I was able to get her some "test glasses" or prescription glasses in about the -13.00D range, and got her seeing around 20/80. Mickayla can be seen in the photo below with her niece who is 6 years old. I will be sending her a pair of new glasses in the correct Rx and size for her as soon as I can. For her this was probably the first time she has seen clearly maybe ever. Older children in Jamiaca are very reserved around us, and she did not show much joy til I saw her go back to her older sister with the biggest smile on her face. She told Marie Warwick who is the daughter of Paula Warwick who was a member of the Eye Team this year wanted to take her photo, and she said wait until she put on her new glasses. In the photo is her niece as it was her older sister from Kingston who brought her to the clinic. She should thank her sister immensely. Thank god I went to Bath that day. This is one of the reasons I go on these trips. Once again I was in the right place to help this young girl, and at the same clinic I found sisters age 9, and 15 that were in the 8D of nearsightedness range, and luckily for both of them I had donated glasses in my inventory that fit them very well.
I am very thankful I met Holland Kendall, and that he was led to establish KOM, which allows me to do what I do best, and that is to help people with both do, and I have an excellent system with technology that allows me to an excellent exam on patients in very remote locations. I have been to Jamaica 9 years, and I hope to continue for many more years.
