Holland,
We had a wonderful time getting to know the people Texiguat, Honduras and surrounding villages. The optometric clinic was a great success. We saw over 650 people in 4 clinic days. We tested and gave either prescription or reading eyeglasses to most of these people. We gave away 300 pairs of sunglasses to help prevent cataracts in this rural, agricultural region. Padre Douglas, Padre Juan Pablo, and many others in the community helped us to operate the clinic. What a blessing to not only pray, sing, laugh and travel together, but also to work and serve together!
We had anticipated traveling to a couple of the villages, but they thought that on this initial clinic we could see more people at the central location in Texiguat. People literally walked 25 or more miles to have their eyes tested and to receive glasses. Without your system we could not have seen this many people and accurately distributed this many glasses, especially for those with far vision problems. As this is a long-term relationship with this community, we anticipate more clinics (one scheduled for this June already). We will probably go to some of the villages and utilize our power inverter in those areas without electricity.
God is good! Not only were we able to share things with our brothers and sisters in Honduras, but we shared our love and felt the love of our amigos in Texiguat. We truly saw Jesus in one another!
Thanks for all of your help and for developing this marvelous system to bring vision-care to remote regions of the world. This is the stuff of Nobel Peace Prizes, not awards for politicians.
Paz y alegria!
YBIC
