Below are a couple of messages from the optical team leader. There is also a story about a day in the clinic.

Hi Holland, We flew into Houston at midnight last night. The equipment made the trip safely and I will have it at UPS by noon tomorrow. Great trip. The auto refractor worked better than ever. I finally have conquered the problem of not seeing all four dots. Turning the patient's head slightly instead of trying to move the refractor worked beautifully. God has certainly worked through you to bless many lives. Jane

Hello again, Here is a foto of our best success story of the week. This little boy had a huge astigmatism and was quite far-sighted. He'd never had glasses. The expression on his face was priceless when he could finally see. We even fit his mom with another pair. The resolution on this photo is terrible, but you get the main idea! Jane

The Beginning and End of Day Two in the OSA Eye Clinic
Day two in the OSA eye clinic began with three or four older patients. The average age must have been about 80. As you might expect, many of these senior citizens in Collique have cataracts and other eye problems that severely limit their vision. We admit to some frustration and disappointment that, with our staff of lay volunteers, we were able to make only marginal improvements in their ability to see. In contrast, the final patient we saw today was a seven year old boy. Initially he could only distinguish the very large letters on the eye chart. After dilating his eyes and testing his vision with the hand held autorefractor, we determined that Jair had rather severe astigmatism which greatly limited his ability to focus. Fortunately, when we entered his prescription into the database, we found a pair of glasses that fit him well and made a significant improvement in his ability to see. So, this chilly day in Collique ended with our hearts warmed by the smile on the face of young Jair.
